AN EPIC NIGHT SHOW
For the first time, in August 2019, Culturespaces is putting on a night show in the exceptional setting of the Nîmes Arena: "Les Nuits de Nemaus". By combining sound, images, live and equestrian performance and light, the performance proposes to explore the history of Nîmes in four paintings, from the birth of the city until the 19th century.
A FEE JOURNEY AT THE HEART OF HISTORY AND MYTHOLOGY
Nemaus is the tutelary god of the source that gave its name to the city of Nîmes. In a nocturnal enchantment of illuminations, choreographies and equestrian cascades, he is incarnated and crosses the epochs while traversing his life as a man. The evocation of the history of Nîmes is rooted in the historical and legendary narrative that Nemaus delivers us. It is indeed in the evening of his life, when he has just discovered the method to make a strong and resistant fabric, become famous under the name of Denim, that he tells you his past, in mirror of that of his city.
A LIVING AND DYNAMIC FRESCO
The show stages, for about 1h30, more than 200 actors, stuntmen and volunteers who animate a living fresco in the mazes of the history of Nîmes. They reveal the birth of the city and the construction of the Roman Nîmes, testify to the advent of the knights, the constitution of the arena and the visit of Francis I. The dynamic immersion in memory and the past of Nîmes will continue until its economic apogee in the 19th century thanks to the textile trades.
